Pagham won this match, but Worthing were far from disgraced. The Lions went ahead within 3 minutes, James Temple striking a fine opening goal. They struck again on the quarter hour, Dan Moseby’s midfield mastery being rewarded with a fine goal. Worthing hit back nine minutes later as DaveHerbert’s run and shot gave them hope. Possibly the goal of the game on the half hour when Daren Pearce struck home a sublime shot. In the dying seconds of the half, Worthing could have scored again, a header going just wide of the post.
A change of formation for Pagham after the break signalled a change of fortunes for the visitors. An almost endless stream of free-kicks gave them chance after chance to score again, and came closest to doing so on 74 minutes as former Lion Billy Rayner hit the bar from range. The Lions put the result beyond doubt on 83 minutes as Michael Frangou capped a fine display with a penalty goal, awarded after Scott Murfin was bought down.
