"Pagham FC - The Pride of Pagham"

Pagham 1 Horsham YMCA 0

SCFL DIVISION 1 4th October 2011

Pagham got ten out of ten as they continued their astonishing winning run. Pagham came racing out of the blocks, with a free-kick in the first minute testing Lockwood in YMCA’s goal. The visitors started the game well, looking every part the former Ryman league side they are, with Nick Sullivan looking especially lively. His shot over in the second minute gave the Lions something to think about. Scally repeated the feat as the visitors started to impose themselves on the game. The Lions did make the odd foray forward, with Scott Murfin in on Lockwood to give the home side perhaps their best chance of the first half. Hillier scuffed a shot wide for the visitors before Ross Woolf whistled a shot just over the bar. Goal-less at half time, but with plenty more action promised in the second half.

The second half began with Dean Knight valiantly hitting Wes Hallet’s post. Referee Barrie Small was the subject of crowd derision as Neil Murfin was cynically scythed down by Dan Sullivan, with only a free-kick resulting. With almost an hour gone, Pagham could have had the lead given to them by the visitors. Matt Wood’s cross was almost turned into the net by YMCA defender Dougdale. The single goal, when it came, was a classic. A searing run and shot from James Temple gave Simon Lockwood no chance with more than twenty minutes still to play. Scott Murfin could have scored a few minutes later, and Dan Simmonds shot straight at Lockwood when clean through, but in the end one goal was enough.
