"Pagham FC - The Pride of Pagham"

Selsey 2 Pagham 3

John O'Hara Cup round 3 22nd November 2011

Scott Murfin’s last gasp penalty finally settled a cup tie that ebbed and flowed much like the fog that had shrowded the pitch. With the late defeat to Peacehaven on Saturday still fresh in the memory, Pagham were grateful to Murfin’s double strike from the spot and an incredible cross-cum-shot from Tom Broadbent which levelled the score at 2-2 in the 88th minute. Selsey for their part scored first just after half time as Dean Maynard took advantage of some hesitant defending to head home. This was then followed by Max Thoms header to put the home side 2-1 with 20 minutes left. Broadbent’s bullet goal broke Selsey’s resolve sending the game into extra time, but not before Selsey smacked the ball against the bar with a minute of normal time left.Pagham should have settled the tie by the third minute of extra-time, with Scott Murfin and Dan Simmonds both having gilt-edged chances to put Pagham into round four. With all three subs used, Selsey found themselves down to 10 men as skipper Mark Lee limped off injured with around 20 minutes of play left. Just as the thought of penalties came up, Murfin’s spot-kick sent the Lions home happy.
