Pagham did their first “double” of the season as they came from a goal down to beat an Arundel side looking to continue a running streak. With the Lions having scored eight on Saturday, seven of which came in the second half against a hapless Eastbourne UA side, they were looking to add to their goal tally. With the goals in the previous game being shared between Scott Murfin, who got four, and a brace each for George Gaskin and Michael Frangou, Pagham were continuing scoring goals for fun. The early exchanges went very much the way of Arundel, with Matt Axel proving the driving force for many of the Mullets’ attacks. Joe Booker and Paul Jones were stupendous at the back for the Lions though, and the home side could have been more than a single goal down by the time the visitors scored. It was a former Lion who opened the goalfest, with Lewis Hamilton racing into the area to bury the ball in the net with a well taken goal. They could have doubled their tally but Gary Norgate was caught well offside.
The second half was barely a minute old before Pagham equalised. Scott Murfin shrugged off his marker as he rocketed into the area, only to be chopped down and the refree had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Murfin made it eleven goals in all competitions as he smacked home the spot-kick to give the Lions some breathing space. The Lions were now really showing their teeth, a header from Paul Jones almost beating Reece Griffiths in Arundel’s goal before Pagham scored a spectacular second goal. An intial screamer from Joe Booker rebounded out to the feet of Michael Frangou who got his seventh of the season to give Pagham the lead. Andy Weir tried to repeat his long range strike against East Grinstead, but this time his shot went just passed the upright. Scott Murfin again tried his luck before Scott Tipper went close for Arundel. With the minutes ticking down, Alex Kew came on for the industrious Neil Murfin. Norgate forced a superb save from Wes Hallett before the ball was pinged to the other end of the field. Both Frangou and Murfin went in on Griffiths, but the Arundel Keeper held onto the ball. Another top draw goal for Pagham saw them 3-1 up. Great approach play by Scott Murfin on the right, a scything ball in, and Alex Kew scored his debut goal for the Lions first team to end a game which Pagham deserved to win.
